NEW HLC CHARACTER: Long Range Discrimination Radar (LRDR)

According to Habitual Line Crosser “it’s kind of in his name The whole “discrimination” part. LRDR Said ‘I’m here to detect Jewish space lasers and ballistic missiles..'”

The Long Range Discrimination Radar (LRDR) is a powerful radar system developed by Lockheed Martin to detect and track ballistic missiles and other objects in space. It’s a key component of the U.S. missile defense system, enhancing the ability to identify potential threats to the homeland. LRDR is designed to operate continuously, simultaneously tracking multiple objects at very long ranges. [1, 2]

  • Ballistic Missile Defense: LRDR is specifically designed to detect and track ballistic missiles, including all classes of these threats. [1, 1, 2, 2]
  • Space Domain Awareness: It also plays a role in space domain awareness, monitoring satellites, space debris, and other objects in orbit. [2, 2, 3, 3]
  • Long-Range Tracking: The radar is capable of tracking objects at very long ranges, providing crucial early warning capabilities. [1, 1, 2, 2]
  • Continuous Operation: LRDR is designed to operate continuously, providing constant surveillance of a wide area. [1, 1, 3, 4, 5]
  • Simultaneous Tracking: It can track multiple objects at the same time, allowing it to handle complex scenarios with numerous threats. [1, 1, 2, 2]
  • Solid State, GaN-based: LRDR utilizes a solid-state gallium nitride (GaN)-based design, offering advantages in terms of power and reliability. [1, 1, 6, 7]
  • Integration with Other Systems: It is integrated with other systems like the Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) and Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) systems for a comprehensive defense. [1, 1, 3, 3]

Lt. Gen. Stephen N. Whiting, Space Operations Command Commander, and Chief Master Sgt. Jacob C. Simmons, Space Operations Command Senior Enlisted Leader, receive a tour of the Long-Range Discrimination Radar (LRDR) while visiting Clear Space Force Station to hear from the Clear Team members on their operations and wellbeing. Whiting had a Space Command Chaplain Team and Space Command Guardians visiting along with him for them to have a chance to see the mission and hear from counterparts. The Clear Space Force members provide strategic missile warning & missile defense.

Recent Developments:

  • Successful Testing: LRDR has undergone successful testing, including tracking a live ballistic missile threat during a recent test, according to DVIDS. [8, 9]
  • Operational Assessment: The system’s performance is being evaluated based on data from these tests to inform its operational assessment. [8]
  • Fielding in Alaska: LRDR was initially fielded in Alaska in December 2021. [1, 4]
  • Potential for Enhanced Capabilities: The successful testing and deployment of LRDR are expected to enhance the warfighter’s ability to detect and identify long-range threats to the homeland. [2, 4]
