Runtime Topology of RF Inference: Contours, Spikes and Safe Operating Areas

Real-time RF inference systems must meet strict latency budgets to be considered operational [2]. Latency is not uniform across the multidimensional parameter space: frequency
offsets, signal-to-noise ratios and other demodulator settings can trigger sudden spikes in runtime. This paper maps the “runtime topology” of an RF demodulation pipeline using a synthetic
benchmark. We show how latency spikes localise in tight bands of parameters and define safe operating areas (SOA) where timing constraints are satisfied. A synthetic batch-processing model
illustrates how throughput depends on batch size and reveals an optimal operating point. The
results provide design rules for real-time deployments and motivate adaptive sampling strategies
for more complex pipelines.
